Overview

Overview

CCLCM faculty positions range from clinical assistant professors to professors. Our faculty members are non-tenured and must meet the same standards applied to all other Case Western Reserve University faculty.

Watch the video to gain further insights on not only the importance of academic titles in the Cleveland Clinic community but also the overall benefits.

You can prepare for an appointment or promotion by participating in the many opportunities for continuing education and skill building (internal resource) available through the Office of Educator and Scholar Development.

Securing a CCLCM Appointment

Applying for a faculty appointment at CCLCM involves determining which rank is appropriate for you. You will then need to declare a "primary area of excellence:" professional service (clinical & administrative); teaching; or research. Rank should be chosen based on reputation and contributions to CCLCM, teaching, research and professional service.

Need help finding the faculty teaching role that is right for you?

Need help selecting the most appropriate rank?

Cleveland Clinic staff based at an academic teaching center with an interest in research, teaching and professional service usually choose from the regular track (full-time) ranks:

  • Instructor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Professor

Those devoted to clinical service will choose from the clinical or adjunct track (part-time) ranks:

  • Clinical/Adjunct Instructor
  • Clinical/Adjunct Assistant Professor
  • Clinical/Adjunct Associate Professor
  • Clinical/Adjunct Professor

Transfers. Those moving from a CWRU-affiliated hospital are required to transfer their appointment following these transfer instructions.

All staff members must submit an online application for a non-tenure CCLCM faculty appointment. This is so CCLCM can maintain its Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation. We appreciate your time and service to CCLCM!

New Appointment Information

If you are applying for the first time or moving from one track to another (clinical to regular track or vice versa), you need to apply for a new appointment. Refer to the Steps to Apply for Appointment & Promotion below for details.

Promotion Information

If you want to promote within your current track (clinical/adjunct or regular), you need to apply for a promotion. Promotions in the clinical or adjunct track have the same appointment requirements as a new appointment. Promotions in the regular track have extra requirements. There are no deadlines for submittal of a promotion application. Refer to the Steps to Apply for Appointment or Promotion below for details.

Steps to Apply for Appointment or Promotion

Step 1: Choose Faculty Rank

Please use the appointment requirements comparison tool to help choose the rank that aligns with your reputation and the support of your department chair, who will write a nomination letter.

A detailed list of all requirements can be found on the appropriate worksheet below:

Step 2: Login and Start Application

To apply online, you will need a CCLCM Faculty Portal Login account.

Please Note: After you login, you will be redirected to the Faculty Application. If you don’t already have a Faculty Portal account, you will need to first secure one by following the directions on the login page.

Step 3: Complete Application

Complete your application and upload the required documents, including your CV. If you are applying in the regular track, your CV will need to comply with our template format:

Find more appointment information, including CWRU policy, teaching portfolios, appeals policy, and more, under our Resources tab.

Step 4: Submit Application

Once your application is complete, you must click the “Submit Application” button. We cannot process your application until you submit it. If you click the submit button and it will not submit, please review your application to see which information or documents are missing. Once you hit submit, your application will be reviewed by CCLCM Faculty Affairs and you will be notified if any documents need to be updated.

If you have questions along the way, please contact us at facultyaffairsCCLCM@ccf.org.

Transfer from a CWRU Affiliate

Transfer from a CWRU Affiliate

If you’re a newly appointed Cleveland Clinic professional staff member and hold a CWRU faculty appointment from a CWRU-affiliated hospital, you must transfer your appointment to CCLCM.

  • There will be no break in appointment, your current CWRU appointment will continue until the transfer is moved to CCLCM.
  • Only primary appointments can be transferred, secondary appointments will remain with CWRU.
  • As soon as you have been approved by Cleveland Clinic’s board and have your start date, you can begin the transfer process.
  • Follow the Transfer Application Instructions to get your appointment moved quickly.

Faculty Appointments at Other Universities

Only a CWRU faculty appointment can be transferred to CCLCM, not appointments from outside universities. You can apply at the rank you previously held or decide if it is time for you to move up to a higher rank; whatever you decide it will be a new appointment, not a transfer or promotion.

  • Speak with your department chair to discuss what rank your chair supports and will write a nomination letter for.
  • For help in selecting the most appropriate rank, please use our appointment requirements comparison tool.
  • As soon as you have been approved by Cleveland Clinic’s board and have your start date, you can begin your CCLCM application.
  • Visit our Apply for Appointments or Promotions tab for more information and a link to our online application in the College Portal.
