Applying

Clinical electives are available to students who are in their final year of medical school and meet the required criteria for academic credit.  The Cleveland Clinic uses VSAS, (Visiting Student Application Service) to receive visiting student applications for requesting elective rotations. To apply to our institution, please complete and submit a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates. For more information on VSAS, please visit www.aamc.org/vsas

International student elective requests will continue to complete the paper application for mailing.

A completed application should be forwarded to the Clinical Education Office. There is a limit of two rotations per student per academic year. All of our rotations are four weeks in length. There are no fees associated with the elective program.  Deadline for submitting applications is September 15.  The applicant will be notified of any missing documents upon receipt of the application.  Due to the high volume of requests, there are certain times of the year scheduling is more competitive (March - October).  Priority in scheduling is given to our own college medical students and affiliate students first, all other US medical students and then International students who meet the criteria to receive academic credit.  If an applicant does not receive a response 30 days after mailing the application, please contact Pat Gasser at gasserp@ccf.org or phone 216.445.7435 Option 2.

Please make sure all supporting documents are mailed to Pat Gasser; Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Clinical Education Office - NA20, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44195.  Postal mail is preferred as e-mail space is limited and all documents may not be received.

Students will be notified of acceptance or denial of their application.  Once your assignment has been confirmed, either by phone/e-mail, you are expected to complete the rotation. While cancellation may be necessary, please do so at least 30 days in advance. Upon canceling, the student also needs to notify his/her school.

The Cleveland Clinic will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, nation origins or ancestry, handicap, or status as a disabled or military veteran, in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, training programs, stipend awards and all other such administrated programs.
