Providing Expert Treatment for Diabetes, Thyroid Disorders and More
While patients with diabetes benefit from the expert services provided at our Diabetes and Endocrine Center, did you know that patients with other endocrine disorders can also receive advanced treatment at the center?
What are endocrine disorders?
The body’s endocrine system consists of a complex group of glands that produce hormones, which is what controls many areas, such as reproduction, metabolism and growth and development. Hormones also control the way you respond to your surroundings and help provide the proper amount of energy and nutrition your body needs to function. (link)
The endocrine system consists of the following glands: thyroid, parathryroid, pancreas, ovaries, testes, adrenal, pituitary and hypothalamus.
Individuals with health problems related to their glands, see endocrinologists to help regulate their hormones. Endocrinologists can help restore the normal balance of hormones in the body’s system.
Conditions typically treated by endocrinologists:
- Diabetes (lack of insulin hormone, which controls sugar levels)
- Thyroid disorders (such as hyper and hypothyroidism) – effects energy levels, emotions, weight control, hot / cold tolerance
- Metabolic disorders – affecting your metabolism
- Lipid disorders
- Cancers of the endocrine glands
- Over or under production of hormones
- Lack of growth
Endocrinologists also conduct basic research to learn the way glands work and clinical research to determine the best treatment method for patients with hormonal imbalances.
